Purchased a pool stick online for pick up and drove from Tampa to Pinellas Park once confirmed they received the order. I walked in and they said it will be ready in 20 min.. They did not have the stick because they did not update their inventory so I found an alternative stick asked if they would match the price and they would not. They said that they could take 20% off which still was an additional $18 and I have to pay the other option was I’d have to drive to Wesley Chapel, which was another 40 minute drive away but then asking if they could use the money I spent online on their website to credit towards it and pay the difference they said I could not do that so I don’t have to pay twice for a stick and then hopefully wait for a refund. That was the best academy sports could do for me Was be out double the money or drive another 40 minutes away because they can’t update their systems. No apologies given they said that’s what it is. This is a lesson learned of don’t order anything online from these companies. Go there and see if they have it or use Amazon where you know you’re 100% get the item.
The employees here were rude and unfriendly. I went to the ammo area and needed a little help finding something. The guy at the counter was talking to someone so I smiled and stood there to wait patiently. He glanced at me and did not acknowledge me whatsoever. Even when the customer and him weren’t talking anymore, he still did not acknowledge me. I found another person to ask where a certain ammo was, but I was met with a sigh and such disdain. Walked me over, pointed, and said “there”. Then runs off. This was my first time in this store, and definitely my last. I had my boyfriend join me in the ammo aisle and the guy who was at the counter earlier then asked him if he needed help. Not sure if it’s because I’m a woman/asian or not, but it was a very weird experience and highly coincidental when my bf (white) came by. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt in that regard. The reason I’m giving them 2 stars is because even though the employees were rude, the store was well stocked. Lots of items like clothes, gear, ammo & guns, camping stuff galore. The store was organized and clean.
